Morocco

A Remembrance Of Childhood, Colonialism And The Cold War

Open this book and take a magic carpet ride through times, places and events so fantastical that many won’t even seem real—but I assure you that they were. All of them, every one of them, really happened.

Following its initial publication in April of 2024 Morocco has received numerous literary awards, including First Place in Literary Global’s Parenting & Family-Travel category (as well as an honorable mention in Literary Global’s non-fiction categories covering history, multicultural, relationships, religion and spirituality), Literary Titan’s Silver Book Award, a Finalist in the American Writing Awards’ Best New (Debut) Non-Fiction category, and an Honorable Mention in the New York Book Festival’s Memoire category.

In addition to relating my personal experiences, both humorous and telling, dealing with the family dynamics of a Navy brat, I describe the many ways in which my life intersected the cross-currents emanating from the Cold War and colonialism.

To explore the unique relationship between the country’s Berber and Arab populations, I delve into Morocco’s incredibly long, colorful and interesting history, as well as the religious and cultural beliefs that have combined to produce what is, arguably, the most open, friendly and egalitarian human population on the planet.

Finally, I make the case that the Moroccan ethos, which is centered on family and community, provides humanity with a far better path forward than one focused on the attainment of individual power, prestige and wealth.

THE
SWEET SEASON

Have you ever wondered why some teams with considerable athletic talent fail and others with far less athletic talent succeed? The Sweet Season explores and ultimately reveals the answer to this question as well as the answers to many related questions that define who we are and who we want to be.

A chance meeting between a crabby old man, rehabbing a dilapidated Victorian mansion in an impoverished midwestern town, and five disparate teen girls pessimistically seeking contributions to support the summer softball team they have, for various reasons, been “sentenced” to join, ultimately alters the course of all their lives.

More than a sports story, more than a coming-of-age story, The Sweet Season is an inspirational exploration of the journey we all take from childhood to adulthood; as well as a thought-provoking exploration of the critical pathways we either choose or reject along the way.
